Las VegasNV 89103
  • Location:Located across from the buffet inside the Orleans hotel.

DESCRIPTION

You don't have to be a budding Picasso to have a great time at Buzz'n Brushes in the Orleans hotel. This fun Las Vegas attraction puts all the tools in your hands to help you create a bee-utiful work of art in an upbeat party atmosphere.

When attending this interactive art class, you'll learn how to paint a preselected image on canvas step-by-step under the instruction of an enthusiastic leader and a team of helpers. Prepare to be engaged, to laugh a lot and to get up on your feet during this two-hour experience.

If you're intimidated by the challenge of creating art, loosen up your mind with a little liquid courage from the Buzz'n Brushes bar. There is also a pizza kitchen serving up a delicious menu.

Great for bachelorette parties, group events and swarms of friends, the painting experience is rowdy and social, especially during the nighttime classes. You may even find yourself taking a break from painting to popular music in order to throw on a costume and dance in front of the room under a disco ball.

You're going to have so much fun you'll be buzzing about the experience -- and showing off your original painting -- to all your friends back home.

El Loco

2880 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:Located at the Circus Circus hotel-casino, at the intersection of the Vegas Strip and Circus Circus Drive.

DESCRIPTION

It’s often said that crazy people don't actually know they're crazy. So by that logic, if you choose to ride the El Loco in the Adventuredome at Circus Circus, it means you're not loco...at all.

Head up 90 feet before diving backwards at negative 1.5 vertical Gs (for those of you who don’t know what that means - it’s super fast). Zip through 45 and a 180-degree turns then drop into barrel rolls. Yeah, totally, completely sane.

Designed by S&S Worldwide, Inc., there are only a handful of other El Loco coasters in the world (including only one other in the United States). With a 1,300-foot yellow track twisting and turning through the Adventuredome, this open-carriage ride is something you’ll definitely remember.

Fall of Atlantis

3570 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:Located inside Caesars Palace Forum Shops at the intersection of the Strip and Flamingo Road.

DESCRIPTION

If all shopping malls had special effects and fireballs, there'd be a lot fewer bored husbands in the world. The Fall of Atlantis show inside the Forum Shops at Caesars is an animatronic display of fire, water and nine-foot-tall talking statues.

The story is set in the kingdom of Atlantis, when King Atlas has to decide which of his bratty kids will rule the throne. Your sibling rivalry doesn't even come close to these two fit-throwers. Sure, you may have fought over toys, food or even listened in on each other's phone calls, but this feud is pretty fierce.

In the end, the family learns the ultimate lesson -- let's just say it doesn't result in a "time-out." While we'd normally hate to spoil the ending, it can get pretty crowded and a little hard to understand what's going on. Don't worry if you can't hear what the characters are saying, it's more fun to narrate the story yourself with a couple of drunk buddies.

It's a free show, and while there are some pretty cool features like heat and sound waves, there are a few hokey ones too. The costumes and props were created by the same geniuses who worked on Thor and Pirates of the Caribbean and there's also a 20-foot winged dragon. Let's be honest, you just don’t see that every day.

While you're there, check out the 50,000-gallon aquarium nearby. There are more than 300 saltwater fish that will have you fighting the urge to sing "just keep swimming."

Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition

3900 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:Near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and the Las Vegas Strip, inside the Luxor.

DESCRIPTION

If you loved the 1997 movie "Titanic," then the Titanic exhibit at the Luxor will blow you away.

Featuring more than 300 artifacts, as well as breathtaking replicas from the famous ship, the Titanic exhibit truly brings history to life.

The exhibit features 20 never-before-seen artifacts including gaming chips, passenger papers and even decorative sections from Titanic's famous Grand Staircase. In addition, there are many personal pieces within the exhibit.

One of the most heartfelt elements of the exhibit is the personal stories of the passengers. During the tour, the exhibit's staff shares personal tales from the passengers. Some stories have a tragic, yet romantic ending. For instance, some wives chose to stay behind with their husbands instead of climbing onto the lifeboats.

"I think seeing all the personal effects from all the people that perished was very touching," said Noelle Dunn, a visitor from Jacksonville, Fla.

At the beginning of the exhibit, patrons receive a boarding pass of an actual passenger on Titanic. On the back of each boarding pass is the age and the itinerary of that person. At the end of the tour, patrons find out if he or she survived the Titanic by finding the name on the wall memorial.

The exhibit also includes passenger quotes. One of the most poignant sayings came from Jack Thayer, a first-class passenger: "There was no moon and I never seen the stars shine brighter," he said. "It was the kind of night that made one feel glad to be alive."

Amazing artifacts

Titanic Fast Facts

- 705 passengers survived, but 1,523 were lost.

- Even if all 20 lifeboats had been filled to capacity, there was only room in them for 1,178 people.

- The Titanic was the largest moving object of its time.

- It cost $7.5 million to build Titanic and carried a $5 million insurance policy. It would have cost about $400 million to build the ship today.

- More than 10,000 men worked on the Titanic for nearly three years to construct the hull and internal structure.

- More than 100,000 people gathered to watch the Titanic sail off to New York.

- For a third-class passenger, a ticket was $40 ($770 today). For a first-class passenger, tickets were $4,500 a piece ($90,000 today).

- It took about 60 pounds of coal for the ship to move 60 feet.

In addition to the passengers' stories, other fascinating details include their belongings.

From a diamond and sapphire ring to a platinum pendant with diamonds, some of the most beautiful pieces recovered from the Titanic are sparkling jewelry. The jewels were conserved -- not restored -- and many of the dazzling gems managed to keep their original luster.

Aside from jewelry, plenty of the Titanic passengers brought their own china and silverware. Each cup, plate, pitcher and bowl has its own interesting, distinct look.

One of the exhibit's unique pieces discovered is the au gratin plates set, stacked neatly in rows. The au gratin dishes were found lined up inside of a wooden crate that had deteriorated over time -- an image that is recreated in the exhibition.

Other artifacts include ship tools, postcards, currency, a pipe, a spittoon and playing cards.

The Big Piece

While the tiny pieces leave behind a lasting impression, The Big Piece -- a huge piece of the ship's hull -- definitely stands out.

This piece is currently the largest Titanic artifact ever retrieved. The Big Piece weighs an astounding 15 tons and measures more than 26 feet long. Bringing it inside was a 48-hour process, involving cranes and a special team of people. It's considered the crown jewel of the collection.

Riveting replicas

In addition to the artifacts, the exhibit also features amazing replicas from the Titanic. One of these includes the staircase replica. Most remember the staircase scene in "Titanic" with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Seeing the staircase in person brings the Titanic to life.

The staircase is where first-class passengers met, mingled and admired each other's outfits. The intricately-detailed staircase replica includes iron, bronze and even the stained glass dome. Visitors have the option of having their picture taken and purchasing it at the end of the tour.

Other noteworthy replicas include the promenade deck (which features the sounds of waves crashing and a starry sky) as well as an iceberg, which guests are more than welcome to touch. Since the iceberg was specifically created for the exhibit, it contains its own cooling system to prevent it from melting.

Make sure to stop and take a look at the third-class and the finely decorated first-class sleeping quarters. Adorned with burgundy colors, elegant décor and mahogany accents, the first-class suite was considered more luxurious than any hotel room on land in its time.

Great for the entire family

From young to old, visitors of all ages will enjoy this exhibit. There is also gift shop for those who want to take a piece of Titanic home with them. Visitors can purchase everything from T-shirts, stuffed animals, captain hats for kids, cups, key chains and much more.

Titanic's overall experience gives guests a better perspective and appreciation of what happened on that fateful night. It allows visitors to remember the story of Titanic, especially the heroism of the crew and the passengers that were lost that night.

Bellagio Conservatory

Bellagio Conservatory

3600 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:Located inside the Bellagio hotel-casino at the intersection of Flamingo Road and the Las Vegas Strip

DESCRIPTION

Most hotels have gardeners, but the Bellagio has 120 of them. That's not including the designers, engineers and electricians who work behind the scenes to make all that magic happen. With 15,000-18,000 visitors to impress every day, you don't have to be a genius to understand why they need so many hands on deck.

Five times a year: Chinese New Year, spring, summer, fall and winter, the Bellagio Conservatory team creates a full-blown floral production. For an entire week, the staff work 24 hours a day to transform the nearly 14,000-square-foot space with tens of thousands of flowers, trees, and plants.

The horticulturalists, who are artists in their own right, create jaw-dropping displays that most people couldn't even make with paper, let alone flowers. It's pretty safe to say that they have more creativity in their pinky fingers than most of us do in our entire bodies.

During the course of each seasonal exhibit, more than 10,000 potted flowers are hand-watered and switched out every two weeks. Don't worry, all the wilted flowers are reused and converted to mulch, in fact 90 percent of the conservatory is recycled. How's that for green? These creations are so impressive that more than 5 million visitors a year come to experience them.

Disk 'O Ride

2880 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:Located at the Circus-Circus hotel-casino , at the intersection of the Vegas Strip and Circus Circus Drive

DESCRIPTION

For all you adrenaline junkies and disco lovers, the Disk 'O ride at Circus Circus' Adventuredome is dy-no-mite! Disk 'O moves at a pulsating 14 rotations per minute on its 100-foot roller coaster track shaped like a "U." You'll spin forwards and backwards, twirling to blaring disco music.

If you remember the good ole Gravitron, the Disk 'O follows the same concept, except with a lot more freedom. Instead of being stuck in one spot like a human magnet, you'll sit on a motorcycle-like seat, which leaves your arms and legs free to move. And while the Gravitron is inside a dark enclosure, the Disk 'O is open with seats facing outward so the people walking by can actually see your ridiculous facial expressions.

The Disk 'O is so mind-blowing, you'll immediately want to try it again from a different angle. But beware -- with all its crazy spins and twirls, there's a good chance you'll get really dizzy the second time around. Make sure to take a breather and walk around before you "Disk 'O" again.

The Auto Collections

3535 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:Inside the The LINQ Hotel & Casino on the Vegas Strip between Spring Mountain and Flamingo roads.

DESCRIPTION

The Auto Collections is entertaining for car aficionados and even those who wouldn't typically give cars the time of day.

Located on the fifth level of The LINQ Resort & Casino self-parking facility, The Auto Collections showcases 300 classic cars including racing cars, muscle cars and much more. Since the exhibit is constantly changing, you'll never see the same set of cars twice.

You can buy a car here, but even if you don't have the thousands of dollars to spare, you can stand by these beauties and take as many pictures as you want. It's not every day you get to see rows and rows of Rolls Royce cars as well as old-school Ferraris, Corvettes, Impalas, Volkswagen Beetles, military vehicles and much more.

Aside from all the classic luxury cars, The Auto Collections also features military-related vehicles. The 1963 Chevrolet Nova Memorial Racecar on display is dedicated to all the fallen and living United States Marines of the Iraq war. While this car isn't for sale, a picture is priceless. Another military vehicle on display is the flat grey 1941 Willy's military jeep. Used in the military during the beginning of World War II, the jeep was restored in 1959.

If you're into racing and have $350,000 to spare, the 1986 Ford R5200 Evolution from Europe would be a fun investment. This speedster was actually banned from a rally competition in the late '80s for being too fast and dangerous. Exactly how fast are we talking about? This sleeper is capable of reaching 60 mph in a whopping 2.1 seconds.

Here you'll also find the iconic Volkswagen Beetle (better known as the "Bug"). For $45,000, you can own an award-winning (41 different awards, to be exact) red 1957 VW Beetle Ragtop. Another popular Volkswagen model on display is the baby blue 1961 Microbus Double Door Camper. Ideal for camping, this fully restored camper has maple wood interior, giving it a luxurious touch. While it's a fun road trip type vehicle, it doesn't come cheap. The fancy camper is $85,000.

If you're really ready to splurge and a Rolls Royce is the only way to go, why not go with the 1967 Rolls Royce Phantom V PV23 (James Young Limousine) for $400,000? One car, such as the 1930 Duesenberg J Murphy Town Car, is so expensive that customers would have to inquire about the price. This award-winning Town Car is only one of four that exist in the world.

Jimmy Velvet, singer and longtime friend of Elvis Presley, signs autographs and books at the Auto Collections on certain days of the week. Visitors can also watch old car commercials as well as a Johnny Carson clip in which he talks about his own classic car collection. Seating areas are available so you can rest your feet.

Before you leave, make sure to check out the gift shop. You'll find books on foreign, race, hot rod and American cars, old-school rotary phones, toy model cars, Elvis memorabilia, customized name plates and parking signs, board games and fun random trinkets.

Drivers Talk Radio

Visitors to the Auto Collections are in for a treat as automotive expert Rick Titus hosts the award-winning radio show Drivers Talk Radio from inside the showroom floor, weekly on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The show reviews the newest vehicles in the automotive marketplace, covers thought-provoking automotive topics and includes live interviews with the industry's movers and shakers.

Monet, Picasso, Warhol. These are just a few of the highfalutin names echoed through the halls of the Bellagio's Gallery of Fine Art. Once or twice a year, the curators put their awesomely artsy brains together to bring world-class masterpieces to Las Vegas.

As if we all hadn't seen the über impressive flower-thingies from Dale Chihuly on the lobby ceiling that are made of hand-blown glass (there are 2,000 of them BTW), they go and blow our minds with big name artist's some of us have only heard about on TV. No need to point fingers, you know who you are.

The current swanky installation comes from that of a one Peter Carl Fabergé. Yep, as in the beloved jeweler to the Russian imperial family who crafted the first famous Easter egg (sorry Cadbury). "Fabergé Revealed," which is on loan from the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, includes a whopping 238 artifacts, making this the largest public collection of Fabergé items outside of Russia.

Visitors can see the most famous of these one-of-a-kind pieces, the imperial eggs. Only 43 eggs are still known to exist and four of them are on display at the gallery. Check out the Imperial Pelican Easter Egg. Made in 1897, it took more than a year to complete and was hand-crafted to celebrate the Dowager Empress of Russia. For those of you who don't watch Downton Abbey (tsk-tsk), the dowager is the title-holding and property-owning widow, AKA one well-kept lady. Evidence of that can be seen in the egg's serious bling: gold, diamonds, pearls and ivory.

Other eggs on display boasting more jewels than your bedazzled iPhone case include the Imperial Peter the Great Easter Egg, Imperial Cesarevich Easter Egg and the Imperial Red Cross Easter Egg.

The exhibit also features "Fauxbergé" items (which were thought to be originals) so you can see how they match up against the real deal. This glorious eggs-hibition bids adieu on May 25.

Jubilee All Access Backstage Tour

Jubilee Backstage Tour

Seeing Jubilee on stage at Bally's is one thing, but experiencing the Jubilee All Access Backstage Walking Tour provides a whole different perspective on the show.

Since 1981, Jubilee has dazzled visitors from all over the world with its elaborate costumes and sets, and beautiful showgirls. One of the Las Vegas Strip's longest-running productions, Jubilee has proven itself to be more than just a topless show. People also come to see the stunning costumes, remarkable headdresses and lively dance routines.

In 2014, Jubilee was modernized by famed choreographer Frank Gatson Jr., who redesigned the show while staying true to Arden’s vision.

To gain true appreciation for Jubilee, the backstage tour is your golden ticket. Hosted by one of the show's charismatic cast members, a Jubilee dancer takes guests on an in-depth look at costumes, props, headdresses and much more.

Before heading backstage, the dancer gives a brief history of the show, including humorous personal experiences and funny mishaps that happen during a show (sometimes a dancer's heel can get stuck between elevator gaps on stage or a wig can be ripped off).

Once inside the dressing room, the tour guide shows several of the legendary Bob Mackie-designed outfits. Even if you're not into shopping or flipping through style magazines, you'll develop a strong appreciation for fashion. Some of these bedazzled costumes, in beautiful colors including turquoise, emerald green and sparkling sapphire, can weigh as much as 35 pounds. During the tour, visitors can pick up a costume and get an idea of how much weight dancers carry on stage.

The tour also includes a trip to the wardrobe crew room, where visitors can see the workers in action. This crew handles everything from laundry to costume maintenance, sequin stitching and alterations. Because fishnet stockings rip on a daily basis, the wardrobe team can spend as many as 13 hours a day mending them.

In addition to its gorgeous, sparkling costumes, Jubilee is also known for its huge collection of headdresses -- some weighing up to 20 pounds. Featuring virtually every color imaginable, the headdress room is like stepping into a crayon box full of feathers. These feathers come from all sorts of birds, including ostriches and vultures. Visitors are encouraged to take pictures of all the vibrant pieces.

Since these showgirls don some of the prettiest headdresses and costumes in town, keeping a fabulous physique is highly important. With all the different stair numbers -- sometimes over a thousand a night -- these ladies get quite the workout. And they still have to hit the gym.

While the nonstop dancing is the hardest challenge, quick wardrobe changes (seven to 11 costumes changes altogether) and make-up applications come naturally. It takes the dancers about 15 minutes to apply their own make-up.

In addition, each dancer must go through an audition process every six months.

Another important element to the production is the people you rarely see. The stagehand crew of close to 50 people contributes a lot to making the show a huge success, staging the props right on time. Some of these gigantic props weigh as much as 8,000 pounds.

Don't be scared to ask questions during the backstage tour. Keep in mind that no question is too bizarre for your tour guide. The dancers have heard -- and seen -- just about everything!

Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat

3400 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:At the Mirage Hotel and Casino.

DESCRIPTION

The wildest part of Las Vegas isn't necessarily the nightlife.

Right on the Las Vegas Strip is an attraction that defines wild in Vegas in a whole new way. Welcome to Siegfried and Roy's Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat at The Mirage Hotel & Casino where white tigers and lions, leopards and dolphins enjoy the Vegas sun and a posh resort like the millions of human tourists who visit the city each year.

The facility, which opened in 1990, is the dream of legendary magicians Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn, better known to millions as Siegfried & Roy. For years the duo has worked to help save endangered animals, primarily white tigers and lions.

The Secret Garden

If you loved collecting those big, cuddly stuffed animals as a kid, then visiting the Secret Garden at the Mirage is a dream come true. Here you can see your furry friends come to life within the lush surroundings of the habitat.

The beautiful attraction displays six different showcases of white tigers and lions, as well as leopards. But the majority of these cats aren't like the typical wild animals you see.

"These are some of the most impressive cats I've ever seen," said Dave Blasko, director of animal care at The Secret Garden. "People come from all over the world to see them."

The Secret Garden stands out from other animal habitats because it features white striped tigers as well as snow white ones. With their distinctive fur color and crystal blue eyes, the cats almost seem unreal.

For more than 20 years, Siegfried and Roy dedicated their time in preserving these rare and exotic breeds. Not only does the Secret Garden preserve these animals from extinction, but visitors also have the opportunity to gain a better understanding and awareness about them.

As you meander through the habitat, you'll notice all the lush greenery, fun, jungle-themed music and even a towering lion figure made from plants. Some of the cats even have built-in waterfalls in their resting areas. You'll also discover fun facts about the animals written on plaques spread throughout the facility. For instance, female lions do most of the hunting while the male lion watches over the pride. Also, tigers actually enjoy swimming.

"Tigers are one of the few cats who like water," said Blasko.

If you want to take some of the wildlife back home with you, the gift shop at the Secret Garden offers souvenirs.

Together with its lush foliage and gorgeous waterfalls, the Secret Garden is the ideal place to visit any time of the year. With all its trees and tropical surroundings, you'll literally feel like you're in another country.

The Dolphin Habitat

Surrounded by palm trees, lush foliage and 2.1 million gallons of water, the Dolphin Habitat at the Mirage is truly an oasis on the Las Vegas Strip. Whether the bottlenose dolphins who call the habitat home are swimming, "tail walking" across water, catching fish or bonding with each other, you'll get an up-close and personal look at their fun, intriguing lifestyle.

While many people think of Sea World when they think of dolphins, many don't realize that they can see the creatures right in the midst of the Las Vegas desert. The Dolphin Habitat is a research facility and is also designed to educate people about these amazing animals. And while the dolphins don't perform on a regular schedule, visitors can still be surprised by their natural playfulness.

Exercising is also very vital to the dolphins' health. When the trainers aren't exercising or having fun with the dolphins, they conduct regular check-ups to ensure that they're healthy.

The Dolphin Habitat offers an underwater viewing area. But if you're trying to take a picture of the dolphins, it can get a little tricky. Since these dolphins are so swift and playful, you may find yourself running back and forth to capture the perfect photo.

The habitat also features shaded seating, a café and a gift shop filled with memorabilia including plush dolphin toys and even dolphin-shaped water guns.

Dolphin Habitat visitors who wish to get a little more involved with the animals can choose from a couple different programs. Painting With the Dolphins allows you to create a mammal masterpiece. Available from noon to 3:30 p.m. daily, you will get up close and personal with a dolphin as you collaborate on creating an original piece of art. Cost of $199 includes price of admission, your unique masterpiece, a certificate and a photograph of the experience.

The Trainer for a Day program, meanwhile, is an all-day activity allowing guests slip into a wetsuit and get up close to the dolphins. From 9:45 a.m. - 3:15 p.m. you will interact with and feed the dolphins while accompanied by habitat staff. A staff member will snap photos of your experience throughout this this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. At the end of the day, your photos will be put on a CD for you to take home as a one-of-a-kind souvenir. Price varies between $495 and $595 depending on the season, with a four person maximum.

Whether you come to see the dolphins or some of the rarest white tigers and lions in the world, The Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat may prove to be the wildest moment on your Vegas trip.

Lucky Cat

Cosmopolitan Lucky Cat

3708 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:Located at the The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas.

DESCRIPTION

Do you feel lucky? Well do you?

We do. That’s because we paid a visit to Lucky Cat at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. Located in the hotel's pop-up exhibit space off the Las Vegas Strip, the 9-foot tall, silver Luck Cat is a modern version of the traditional Japanese cultural icon and talisman of good fortune, maneki-neko.

Those of us not up-to-date on Japanese cultural icons will recognize Lucky Cat as the ubiquitous statue of a cat waving (really he's beckoning good fortune to come in) found at just about every Asian restaurant.

Here in Vegas we're a little obsessed with luck and anything that impacts it, so having a giant statue that brings good fortune, is, well, fortunate.

Lucky Cat normally sits at the front of a business beckoning good fortune to come in. That might seem a bit self-serving of The Cosmopolitan (Doesn't the House always have the advantage?). So the resort has created a Lucky Cat that gives good fortune to everyone. Anyone who puts their hand on Lucky Cat's paw will get a fortune. Some are helpful like "If the world is your oyster, beware of food poisoning." Others are funny "You're right. You should quit your job to start that kitten farm." And some are jackpots – free drinks at the hotel or even a free night stay.

Just be prepared to wait. Sometimes the line can get long.

So hedge your bets and improve your luck. If your fortune isn't what you want, there are also additional luck charms and lucky cats to purchase.

City Center Fine Art Collection

3730 S. Las Vegas Blvd
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:The various art pieces are located within CityCenter including Aria, Vdara, Crystals and Mandarin Oriental to name a few.

DESCRIPTION

You think it would be enough that the CityCenter seems like a work of art all by itself. But we’re all wrong. It’s not only home to Vegas’ first permanent art collection in a public space, but also the world’s largest corporate art collection.

You can basically run into art everywhere you go, even the walkways, lobbies and hotels. It’s a lot like strolling through a huge gallery with everything from massive installations to sculptures and paintings.

Just to get an idea how different all these pieces are, you'll see everything from brightly-colored boats at Vdara (Nancy Rubin's "Big Edge" made of stainless steel and aluminum water vessels) to a heartfelt rendition of a mother embracing her baby at Crystals (Henry Moore's "Reclining Connected Forms " made of Roman travertine marble). And if you're on your way to Crystals from Mandarin Oriental, you'll see Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen's "Typewriter Eraser," made of stainless steel, fiberglass and acrylic polyurethane paint.

Don't forget to check out the cool stuff inside the properties too. Like Maya Lin's 84-foot-long "Silver River," which weighs 3,700 pounds, or the art piece dangling over Aria’s registration desk.

Bodies...The Exhibition

3900 S. Las Vegas Blvd.
Las VegasNV 89109
  • Location:Inside the Luxor Hotel and Casino

DESCRIPTION

Preserving the bodies

To keep the specimens in top condition without decaying, they go through a method known as polymer preservation, in which all of the tissue and water is replaced with silicone rubber.

First, each specimen must be preserved to stop decay. Next, it's dissected to feature specific parts of the body. Once dissected, the specimen is immersed in acetone. This process removes all body water.

After the acetone process, the specimen is placed in a silicone polymer bath and sealed in a vacuum chamber. During this stage, the acetone leaves the body in the form of gas and the silicone polymer replaces it, entering each cell and body tissue. A catalyst is then applied to the specimen, which hardens it and completes the process.

Experts are available at the exhibit for guests who have further questions.

With a name like Bodies in Las Vegas, it's easy to assume you're going to a topless show. But Bodies…The Exhibition at the Luxor is even more revealing.

Bodies will easily trump any science lab dissection you've done in school. With an intricate, 3-D vision of the human form, visitors get the chance to see real bodies, preserved along with their inner organs. The exhibit showcases 13 whole-body specimens from China and more than 260 organs and partial body specimens. There are nine rooms dedicated to different parts of the body, including the muscular, nervous, circulatory, respiratory and digestive systems.

There is also a more sensitive section of the exhibition showing fetal development. Guests can see different stages of a baby's development, from eight weeks old to eight months, as well as fetuses with various birth defects, such as conjoined twins. This exhibit is located in its own private area, so those who feel uncomfortable viewing it can skip to the next section.

It is both startling and informative to see so many body parts and inner organs out in the open when they are usually tucked safely away under your skin. One wouldn't expect such an intricate part of the nervous system, like the spinal cord, to resemble a clump of seaweed. The tongue, meanwhile, looks a bit like a small, thick cut of steak (Would you like that medium-rare or well-done?).

One of the more startling sights in the exhibit is the display of a smoker's lung in the respiratory section. Visitors can see and compare a healthy lung to a blackened smoker's lung. There is also a brain on display here from a person who suffered a stroke -- ironically it looks a bit like the inside of an ashtray. After reading some scary, mind-opening facts (like a single pack of cigarettes takes three hours and 40 minutes off your life), you may think twice about puffing. For the guests' convenience, there is a cigarette disposal bin nearby.

Bodies also offers enrichment that helps visitors improve their quality of life and prevent diseases.

Reading the quick facts on the wall is almost as interesting as checking out the specimens. For instance, did you know if all the muscles in your body worked together, you could lift more than 10 tons? And did you know eating breakfast really does help improve your memory?

More fun facts: Faster than the world's most powerful computer, the nervous system is responsible for processing all thoughts and emotions. In addition, every drop of blood in the body passes through the heart once per minute. Single visitors will be interested to learn that scent plays a significant role in people's physical attraction to each other. (Men, even the most expensive cologne won't help you if she's not attracted to your "natural" scent!) These are just a few of the fascinating things you'll discover while walking through the Bodies exhibit.

There are plenty of benches scattered throughout the facility for guests who want to sit down take a break. For those who want an in-depth description about particular displays, audio wands are available for $6. Expert docents can also answer questions. Visitors are encouraged to write their impressions of Bodies in one of several guest books at the end of the exhibition.

As for those who want to take a little piece of Bodies home with them, the gift shop features some a collection of books, incense holders, models, key chains, souvenirs and educational doodads for kids.
