Seance

seance21

Séance creates an immersive experience that utilizes the same tricks as the spiritualists of 1932, making the audience question if they’ve contacted the other side or if it was all just an illusion.

Up three flights of narrow stairs and hidden within the walls of the Apache Hotel lies a secret room that was never supposed to be found by anyone, except for Benny Binion’s inner mob circle. The room has witnessed many violent acts and is said to be home to many lingering spirits. This place is where Séance attempts to pierce through the veil, or at least convince the audience that it has.

The room itself is tucked away behind Benny Binion’s penthouse suite, a preferred stay for celebrities like Humphrey Bogart and Lucille Ball. Binion was a high-level mobster, and any career criminal requires a solid getaway plan, so this secret mob haunt has multiple escape routes, including a breezeway that connects to the roof.

When you enter the secret mob counting house that was, for some unlucky souls, the last room they ever saw, the most prominent artifact on display is a gun in a plexiglass case. It was reportedly found in the breezeway covered in blood, the crime and culprit who left it there are unknown, but the negative energy is believed to still be attached to the weapon.

After your history lesson, your guide begins to contact ‘the spirits.’ The tricks include swinging pendulums, floating tables and flashing thermal cameras that make it difficult to decipher fact from fiction. After all, the Hotel Apache is known to have real hauntings. So is it all a spiritualist trick, or a real ghost trying to communicate?

Staff members have heard children’s laughter in the counting room, leftover spirit energy from all those years ago when children would count the illegal money and then be rewarded with ice cream on hot summer days.

Séance may not open a portal to the other side, but it will give audiences an inside look into Sin City’s dark and violent past.

Yea, we all secretly laugh at jokes about masturbation and potty humor. That’s why we FREAKED THE $!@&* OUT when we heard the king of expletive jokes, Andrew Dice Clay, was coming back to Vegas.

This guy is a living (four-letter) legend. “The Diceman” has been packing crowds, starring in shows and headlining events since TAB was a thing. Oh, FYI: Clay has been known to insult people in the crowd just to see if he can get them thrown out. Consider yourself warned.

Bow down folks, the king has returned to reclaim his throne.

Le Reve: The Dream

lereve21

lereve22

Leave reality behind and experience the fantastical world of Le Rêve, created by Franco Dragone, at Wynn. French for the dream, Le Rêve, depicts a colorful aquatic wonderland of beautiful and mystifying characters. The experience starts when you first enter the theater and realize that this is not your typical showroom. The circular 1608-seat theater is situated around a pool that is 68-and-a-half-feet in diameter with the furthest seat only 42 feet from the water. The 27-foot-deep pool is kept at a comfortable 89 degrees Fahrenheit.  Not only does the in-the-round theater put guests at a unique vantage point, but it also makes them feel like they are part of the show as there is no clear line between the audience and the stage. Gymnasts, aerialists and synchronized swimmers appear from every angle, at times ascending from the water, descending from the high arched ceiling or running through the theater and alongside the audience. If you are seated by an aisle, you never know when you are going to look to your side and see a masked face or other curious character staring right back at you.

Le Rêve has a loosely woven storyline that begins with a woman and man dancing and then saying goodnight and goodbye to each other. The man departs the stage, and the woman lies down to rest on a bed. Together the woman and the bed slowly disappear underwater, signifying that her spectacular dream is about to begin.

Gordie Brown

gbrown 4

Not only does he perform dead-on impressions, Gordie Brown makes the audience laugh with his hilarious song parodies and onstage antics in his self-titled show at the Golden Nugget. He uses well-known quirks of popular entertainers as the source for his lyrics, reiterating why good old fashioned ribbing is just that.

"When I switched the words, that was the magic formula," said Brown.

When Brown was starting his career there were many entertainers who were popular including Michael Jackson, Prince, Tina Turner, Bruce Springsteen, George Michael and Boy George. Having a wide catalogue of entertainers with recognizable characteristics enabled Brown do his impressions and change the lyrics of his songs without losing the audience. If people could immediately recognize the personality, then they could understand Brown's comedy.

"I knew the value of music and a strong persona. It was just the perfect time in music where there were these superstars that transcended years of career," said Brown.

He first opened at the Golden Nugget in 2004 and after two years moved to the Venetian and then Planet Hollywood. After six months of performing as the opening act for Celine Dion's North American tour, Brown is back at the Golden Nugget. His new show features a five-piece band and more hilarious impressions of famous performers that run the gamut from John Wayne to Elvis and Eminem. Instead of trying to sing along, you'll be laughing with tears in your eyes.

"To all the plants I smoked before … I'm glad they came along and helped me find my bong," sings Brown to the tune of Willie Nelson's song "To All the Girls I've Loved Before." This is just one of the many song parodies that he performs in the show.

Sometimes he incorporates props to enhance his impressions, which add to the fun. For Michael Jackson he puts on one sparkly white glove and a hat with wavy black hair attached to it that covers his eyes. He looks just like the real entertainer from his outfit to his signature moon walk.

Don't worry if you are not familiar with every entertainer. Brown takes brief pauses between his impressions to set up the premise for his next bit and reveal who is going to be appearing.

The Comedy Cellar – now open at the Rio Hotel – is the “greatest” comedy club in the world?

The Comedy Cellar:

* Is rated THE #1 comedy club by Google Reviews AND #1 by TripAdvisors… (you can look it up… ok, you may have trust issues… you really do need an hour and a half of wall-to-wall laughing… so here ya go.

Premiered stars like Amy Schumer, Ray Romano, Jon Stewart, Colin Quinn, Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Dave Attell, and is the “home club” for stars like Michael Che, Colin Jost, Michelle Wolf, Bill Burr, Judah Friedlander and Dov Davidoff (No promises, but ya never know who’s going to drop in! )

* Features not just an MC, middle act and a headliner doing an hour (like other clubs) but 5 TV Headliners doing their best killer 20 minute sets – in each show!

The club itself is a star of major TV series and films, including HBO’s Crashing, Robert De Niro’s “The Comedian”, Jerry Seinfeld’s feature doc “Comedian”, FX’s hit series named after a male comedian we’re not allowed to mention, and whose regulars are seen on every late night show from Letterman, Conan, Fallon, Kimmel, and in their own Netflix and Comedy Central Specials

Is hailed as “THE iconic comedy club” by Vanity Fair (elitist, yeah, we know) and “A Billion Dollars of Comedians” by The NY Times (which usually hates everything!)

Has its own Comedy Central weekly TV series coming this fall(!) – “This Week At The Comedy Cellar” (we came up with the name ourselves at 3AM, after getting hammered)

Sells out 30 shows a week in its 3 New York rooms – still, after 37 years of operation (which makes us the most successful comedy show in NYC)

Built an exact replica of the NY Comedy Cellar at the Rio Hotel  (don’t ask what THAT cost us) – and books the same talent we book in NYC

Anthony Cools: The Uncensored Hypnotist

acools21

Watch the swinging pocket watch. You are getting sleepy, very sleepy. Sure that might be what a hypnotist connotes, but Anthony Cools- The Uncensored Hypnotist is anything but a typical hypnotist show. There is definitely hypnotism, but the unthinkable and hilarious acts that he persuades people to do on stage result in a night of "good, clean, dirty fun."

"You will be a star tonight," warns the screen hanging on both sides of the stage, letting everyone in attendance know that the real performers in this show are the people who are brave enough to be hypnotized.

Before the show starts, Natalie, the hostess and DJ for the night, appears to go over some ground rules. This show is "loud, raw, uncensored and extremely adult in nature," she explains, before the lights dim, the music gets louder and Cools appears on stage.

"Where the party people sitting?" exclaims Cools. His explosive energy and uninhibited personality let everyone know they are in for a crazy evening of fun. After greeting the audience, Cools does a "test of susceptibility," which involves some playful and funny interaction with the crowd. Although the end result is a lot of laughs, the test is actually done to determine if you are a good candidate for hypnotism.

Cools also explains three other restrictions for good candidates. You cannot be really drunk, high or in opposition to wanting to be hypnotized. So you can basically nix the idea of using liquid courage as an instigator to get yourself on stage. However, he encourages those who are not going to be hypnotized to indulge in a night of intoxicating fun.

Words cannot begin to describe the ludicrous and lewd acts that occur on stage when the volunteers awake. Uproarious laughter spills over from everyone in the audience as each person does their audition.

Regardless of whether or not you chose to be a spectator or experience everything first hand on stage, this show is one mesmerizing night of hypnotic comedy that you will not want to miss.

"It was excellent. I had a great time," said Chris West from Austin, Texas. "I wouldn't spend my time anywhere else unless there was a female involved."
