Paula Poundstone built her comedy career on jokes that spring from her off-kilter view of everyday life.
In 1989, Poundstone was given an American Comedy Award as Best Female Stand-Up and she starred in her own One Night Stand comedy special for HBO.
She has appeared on a number of comedy specials and shows, including HBO's first "Women of the Night," NBC's "Saturday Night Live," Showtime's "Just For Laughs," an HBO "Young Comedians Special," and the last three live "Comic Relief" benefits. Poundstone entertained at the prestigious White House Correspondents Dinner in 1992 (the first woman ever invited to do so).
She has won two Cable ACE Awards and an Emmy Award as producer/star of a local PBS piece titled "Life & Times."
Poundstone also starred in her own series of specials for HBO. "The Paula Poundstone Show" was part stand-up and part talk show. Her razor-sharp wit makes her the perfect fit as a regular panelist on NPR's popular weekly quiz show "Wait Wait... Don't Tell Me." The show won the prestigious Peabody Award for broadcasting excellence in 2008.
The multitalented comedian was recently inducted into the Comedy Hall of Fame. In 2010 she was invited to serve as a judge in the humor category of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The awards are the largest and longest-running recognition and scholarship program for teenage artists and writers. She has also been recognized as one of Comedy Central's 100 greatest stand-up comedians of all time.
