Louie Anderson Live

Emmy Award-winning comic Louie Anderson is the Plaza's resident comedian in downtown Las Vegas.

Anderson recently finished a run with the ABC celebrity diving show, “Splash.” Even as he launched himself off platforms and springboards, he had comedy on his mind.

“Diving is a lot like stand-up,” he said. “You can’t go back once you’re up there. There’s only a shame walk. I gotta dive into the audience or dive into the pool.”

But Anderson’s career has been anything but a flop.

He made his national TV debut on “The Tonight Show” in 1984 and since then has brought audiences to tears of laughter with his appearances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson,” “Comic Relief” and specials on HBO and Showtime. He hosted "Family Feud" for a time, and most recently, he starred in his own CMT stand-up special, “Big Baby Boomer.”

Anderson has guest starred in sitcoms and TV dramas and was featured in the films, “Coming to America,” opposite Eddie Murphy, and in the comedy classic, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”

With his autobiographical animated series, “Life with Louie,” Anderson became the only three-time recipient of the Humanitas Prize for writing on a children’s series.

Among Anderson’s best-selling books, “Dear Dad – Letters From An Adult Child,” is a collection of hilarious and touching notes from Anderson to his late father. “Goodbye, Jumbo … Hello Cruel World” is a self-help book for those with self esteem struggles. He recently released, “The F Word: How to Survive Your Family.”

Michael Pergolini, general manager of the Plaza Hotel & Casino, said that Anderson is a perfect fit for the venue.

“We thought it was a great partnership to have a comedy legend like Louie headline the Plaza’s legendary showroom that has been the home to many stars over the years,” Pergolini said. “It’s great to have Louie here at the Plaza to entertain our guests and broaden the entertainment options downtown.”
